If you have psoriasis or eczema, or you suspect that you do, your first thought may be where to go first. Do you wait and hope that the symptoms go away by themselves or visit a dermatologist? Many people do not have the money to visit a dermatologist, or the time to waste waiting for your doctor to have a free appointment. If you’re unsure of what to do about psoriasis and eczema, look up the many helplines and websites dedicated to helping people with these skin conditions.
Most of these websites are run by non-profit organisations and cover a host of topics from treatment, symptoms and community forums where you can share your experiences.
The people on these websites understand the disease and no one will judge you for being a sufferer. The worst symptoms can be itching and burning pain, and the skin effects it has can make some people self-conscious which is understood by the people on the website. For this reason, you can always be sure that whoever you speak to from the foundation will listen with a caring and sympathetic ear.
Your GP can take you through a wide choice of treatments available to use, each with different strengths depending on how severe your psoriasis and eczema symptoms are. There are types of psoriasis which requires treatment in hospital including the very dangerous Erythrodermic psoriasis.
Milder forms of the disease are the most common and sufferers will have mild symptoms if any. With 80% of psoriasis sufferers having the plaque form, it is the most common and mildest.
We cannot prevent ourselves from having an outbreak of psoriasis and there is no permanent cure. The causal factor in the outbreak of psoriasis is genetics and can affect several members of a family at one time. That does not mean that everyone in a family with a psoriasis victim will get the disease, as it can miss several generations. Stress, throat infections and some medicines can stimulate the first outbreak of psoriasis in a sufferer.
There is help and treatment available to you if you suffer from or have a loved one who suffers from psoriasis or eczema so do not worry!
